MCWD Assures No Water Shortages in Cebu This Summer

APRIL 28, 2025

The Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) assured that there will be no water shortages during the summer months in their coverage area, despite the onset of the warm season. MCWD corporate planning manager John Makabenta emphasized that water supply remains stable, and the district has activated desalination plants to meet demand. Additionally, MCWD has backup water sources, including desalinated water, which will help mitigate any potential shortfalls, especially as surface water supplies decrease during the dry season.

MCWD project department manager Tommy Gonzales further assured that the weather outlook from PAG-ASA supports their confidence in supply levels. The district’s water composition includes 60% groundwater, 20-25% brackish water, and 15% surface water, with the remaining sourced from desalination. MCWD services 209,000 connections across eight LGUs, supplying approximately 300,000 to 305,000 cubic meters of water per day, and any scheduled service interruptions will be announced at least three days in advance.
