DCWD Calls for community vigilance amid rising water meter theft
FEBRUARY 7, 2025
The Davao City Water District (DCWD) has reported an increase in water meter thefts and is urging the community to stay vigilant. DCWD spokesperson JC Duhaylungsod emphasized the importance of public cooperation and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities near water meter clusters. The DCWD is launching a campaign to engage homeowners and barangays in preventing these thefts. The agency also warned about individuals impersonating DCWD employees and offering fake repair services for a fee.
To combat these schemes, Duhaylungsod advised residents to verify the legitimacy of anyone claiming to be from the water district. Legitimate personnel carry a Citizen Charter ID (CitCha ID) and a company ID, which should be presented before doing any work. Residents can also call the DCWD hotline to confirm authorized field visits. The DCWD, in coordination with law enforcement, is pursuing operations to apprehend suspects involved in the illegal trade of stolen water meters, which is punishable under the Anti-Fencing Law.
