Bacolod’s New Water Treatment Plant
to Enhance Bulk Supply
MAY 8, 2025
Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI), a subsidiary of Tubig Pilipinas Group Inc., has commissioned its new 25 million liters per day (MLD) water treatment plant, completing Phase 2 of its bulk water project. Located in Murcia, the plant will supply water to approximately 25,000 households in Bacolod City, sourcing surface water from the Sum-ag River in Barangay Abo-Abo. The facility features fully automated systems with 36 online water quality instruments to ensure safety. The added supply will benefit around 10,000 households in southern Bacolod, including areas like Mansilingan, Handumanan, and Taculing.
The Murcia Water Treatment Plant is part of a PHP1.5-billion investment, including the Caliban River development. BBWI has begun Phase 3, constructing a four-kilometer pipeline to increase capacity to 40 to 50 MLD. Phase 1, operational since 2017, provides 15 MLD from the Ngalan Water Treatment Plant in Barangay Granada. BBWI’s efforts are part of a broader collaboration with PrimeWater Bacolod and Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) to improve water supply availability in the city.
