U.S., PH troops gear up for Salaknib 2025 with joint water purification training
MARCH 17, 2025
U.S. Army Soldiers from the Division Sustainment Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, are preparing for Exercise Salaknib 2025 by testing their Tactical Water Purification System (TWPS) at Fort Magsaysay. The system ensures access to clean water in field conditions by filtering and purifying local sources, which is essential for the joint training exercise with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Sgt. Mario Lumpkin, Water Treatment Specialist and TWPS Subject Matter Expert, emphasized the goal of safely using local water during training with Philippine troops.
As part of the lead-up to Salaknib 2025, Lumpkin will conduct a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) to share U.S. Army purification methods and learn Philippine Army techniques. The collaboration begins with classroom sessions, followed by hands-on demonstrations of equipment operation and water safety standards. Salaknib is an annual exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability, trust, and cooperation between U.S. and Philippine forces through shared field experience and technical exchanges.
