PBBM Pushes for Urgent Formation of Water Resources Department

SEPTEMBER 25, 2024

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is advocating for the establishment of a Department of Water Resources to reorganize water management in the Philippines. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address water-related challenges, particularly in light of climate change, stating, "We really have to direct our efforts... to water."

During the recent Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting, President Marcos confirmed that Malacañang would draft an executive version of the Department of Water Resources bill for Senate discussions. He stressed the importance of integrating flood control and irrigation efforts into the new department’s mandate, arguing that water issues cannot be addressed piecemeal, as water knows no boundaries. This initiative aims to foster a coordinated strategy involving various agencies to effectively manage the nation’s water resources.
