No Water Crisis Expected in 2025,
Says MWSS-RO
DECEMBER 14, 2024
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) has guaranteed that there will be no water crisis in 2025. This assurance comes as both Manila Water and Maynilad have made significant investments to enhance water and wastewater services across their service areas. MWSS-RO Chief Regulator Patrick Tyrone emphasized that the improvements would prevent any widespread disruptions in water supply.
The MWSS-RO's promise follows the approval of increased water rates for both concessionaires, set to take effect in January 2025. Manila Water invested P32.668 billion, and Maynilad spent P47.591 billion in capital expenditures between 2023 and 2024, focusing on water security, service continuity, and environmental sustainability. Despite the rate hikes, Tyrone reassured the public that any potential interruptions would be limited and isolated.
