Metro Pacific Water Solutions (MPWS) and Hitachi Asia Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on water supply and wastewater management projects in the Philippines. The partnership aims to address the country's wastewater treatment challenges, with only 10 percent currently treated, creating public health and environmental risks. The government targets increasing wastewater treatment coverage to 80 percent by 2028, making this collaboration crucial.

The companies will explore projects like developing new wastewater treatment plants and upgrading existing ones. They will also focus on advanced treatment technologies and AI-driven monitoring systems. MPWS President Christopher Andrew B. Pangilinan welcomed the partnership, recognizing Hitachi’s expertise, while Chay Wee Tang, COO of Hitachi Asia Ltd., emphasized their commitment to sustainable water access.
