Manila Water energizes largest solar rooftop project in PH water utility sector
FEBRUARY 27, 2025
Manila Water, in collaboration with Ditrolic Energy, officially energized its 2.5-megawatt solar power systems across three major facilities—Cardona Water Treatment Plant, East La Mesa WTP, and San Juan Compound—on February 18, 2025. The switching-on ceremony, held in Quezon City, was attended by officials from the Department of Energy and MWSS. The combined solar installations are expected to generate 3.6 million kWh annually, helping reduce around 2,576 tons of carbon dioxide emissions while supporting national efforts toward energy efficiency and sustainability.
This project, under a 15-year Solar Facility Power Purchase Agreement with Ditrolic, forms part of Manila Water’s 30MWp solar energy roadmap. The company aims to lower power costs, integrate renewable energy in its operations, and further promote energy sufficiency in the sector. Manila Water emphasized its long-term commitment to sustainable solutions and cleaner infrastructure, with more renewable energy initiatives in the pipeline.
