Los Baños Voters Urge Action on
Water Supply and Laguna Lake Health

MAY 10, 2025

Voters in Los Baños are calling for adequate water supply from the next set of leaders, with concerns centered around the Laguna Water District Aquatech Resources Corporation (LARC) and the health of Laguna Lake. Issues with clean and consistent water supply have persisted, particularly after high arsenic levels were detected in the town's groundwater in early 2024. While the contamination was contained by November of that year through the establishment of the P10-million Umali Coagulation Treatment Station, residents continue to face unreliable water service from LARC, prompting calls for better coordination between local authorities and the water provider.

Residents are increasingly concerned about the worsening condition of Laguna Lake, a key source of livelihood for lakeside communities. Fecal coliform levels have exceeded safety limits, endangering public health and local fisheries. As infrastructure projects like the Laguna Lakeshore Road Network Phase II move forward, voters hope the upcoming elections bring leaders focused on urgent environmental and water security issues.
