DOE Urges Filipinos to Conserve Water and Energy for Earth Hour 2025
MARCH 20, 2025
The Department of Energy (DOE) is urging Filipinos to participate in Earth Hour 2025 by turning off non-essential lights and appliances, alongside conserving water, to highlight the connection between energy and water conservation. With the theme “Switch Off and Secure Water for All,” the event will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. DOE Secretary Raphael Lotilla emphasized that energy usage directly impacts water, with power plants and water systems relying on water for cooling and distribution processes. He noted that conserving both energy and water helps preserve the environment for future generations.
Lotilla further stated that by adopting energy efficiency practices, individuals, businesses, and communities can contribute to long-term climate resilience. The symbolic global event encourages everyone to reduce their electricity usage, with past Earth Hours showing positive results—last year, the Philippines saved 132.11 megawatts of energy.
