2025 budget to prioritize water management for disaster resilience

NOVEMBER 4, 2024

The proposed PHP6.352 trillion national budget for 2025 will prioritize water management projects to strengthen disaster resilience and sustainability across the country. Speaker Martin Romualdez said the shift from traditional flood control to integrated systems—such as water impounding facilities—will help harvest rainwater, prevent flooding, and secure water supply during dry months. Alongside this, PHP293.23 billion is earmarked for social services, adding to the PHP591.8 billion already set for programs like educational subsidies and livelihood assistance.

Romualdez also emphasized legislative progress, highlighting the House’s adoption of the proposed Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act to establish fully equipped evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities. This measure is key to protecting lives during calamities. He further commended President Marcos Jr. for declaring a national day of mourning to honor those who died from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
